Christy has been making people laugh since she was a kid…mostly in her room making up characters with different accents and talking into tape recorders, but her love of laughter has always been real. 

Growing up in Houston, TX she was always the tall awkward girl in the back row with the boys in school pictures, but dreamed of being front and center. Christy graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Secondary Education specializing in Speech and Physical Education, which means she can effectively motivate you to run five laps. After a couple of years as a middle school teacher and coach, she went to work full-time as a volunteer for all her kids’ hobbies and activities, specializing in forgetting the orange slices for soccer games.

Christy has worked with kids for over 30 years as a Sunday School teacher, camp counselor, YoungLife leader, VBS director, and mom. She also served as the director of D’Vine Life Players, a Christian drama troupe in Houston, where she wrote and directed comedy sketches for various events. She worked for over three years as a Master Teacher and curriculum writer for the children’s ministry at Fellowship Bible Church in Brentwood, TN.

Upon moving to Nashville in 2012, Christy enrolled in Rik Roberts’ School of Laughs at Zanies and was hooked. Since then, she has been pursuing clean comedy and bringing laughter to all ages. She has performed at Zanies in Nashville, Gutty’s in Indianapolis, various churches, and special events as well as being the warm-up comedian for The Huckabee Show in Hendersonville. Chinnita Morris f.k.a. "Chocolate", is giving the devil a black eye!

Chinnita Morrisformerly known as"Chocolate"has overcome so many obstacles in her life that  through the bitter sweet in life, she learned to take her lemons and make lemonade.

Growing up in Gastonia NC with 5 sister's and a single mother who had an addiction to drugs and alcohol, made her childhood extremely difficult to say the least. It didn't help that she was also the darkest one in her family which made her the butt of many jokes. As hard as her childhood was for her, God blessed her with a gift to see the funny side of life and to take it all in stride. Knowing the odds were stacked against her, she worked hard as a teenager to do things different and make better choices than she'd seen others in her family make. Her diligence to make better choices paid off. She went to college, and joined the Marine Corps Reserves while in college. Shortly after graduating from Winston-Salem St. Univ. she decided to pursue her dream to do comedy.

She left her job in Baltimore, MD with nothing but a paycheck and a dream. She headed south to Atlanta, GA where her dreams would come to fruition much faster than she imagined. Her life had completely changed and she was traveling all over the world making more money than she'd ever dreamed of. She became a favorite on HBO's Def Comedy Jam, and BET's Comic View. Becoming one of the top 5 female comics on the circuit, she was featured on many tours, and in great demand for comedy clubs, arena's and colleges all over the world. She's also toured with numerous stage plays, including Tyler Perry's very first play "I know I've been changed".

But in 1998, God called her in out of darkness into His marvelous light. Her answer was a resounding "YES LORD"! She had gotten a revelation that "only what you do for Christ will last". Her life now was everything she'd dreamed it would be, but it meant nothing if her soul was perishing. In a move that would baffle many of her peers that she came up in comedy with, (Earthquake, Monique, Sommore, Chris Tucker, D.L. Hugley, Bruce Bruce, Jamie Fox, Dave Chappelle, etc.) she walked away from the secular industry to serve her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Her transition from the secular to Christian wasn't easy and she faced much criticism from her peers who didn't understand her decision at a time when her career was going so well. Not only that, but the Church didn't necessarily welcome her with open arms either.

None of that mattered to Chinnita. She knew she had planted some bad seeds from her previous life in the secular, so all that mattered to her now was living a life that glorifies God. She's been fully committed to Jesus now well over 20 years and still, "His will" is her hearts greatest desire.

Chinnita is a very seasoned woman of God who has evolved into so much more than a comedian. She is a Christian writer and Author, she's a Keynote Speaker and a licensed Minister. She's been a comedian over 30 years and a Christian comedian over 20 years. For Chinnita, comedy is more than just making people laugh. Chinnita uses comedy as a conduit to minister so that healing and deliverance will take place, and that none will leave the same as they came, but with a greater desire to draw nearer to God and be the people He has called us to be.

I became an addict in the third grade.

I was addicted to people-pleasing, worry, doubt, guilt, fear, and shame. And it continued through middle school – the years where we’re all trying to find our way. Where social boundaries are tested and you either find your grit, or you don’t.

Looking back, I realize that many women give their power away early on, and may carry on for many years with limited beliefs, such as, “I’m not good enough,” or “I’m not qualified to do that.” Sound familiar? We stifle our magnificence…and our potential.

I always wanted to find a way to help women find their voice, and remove the roadblocks that keep them from their dreams. In other words, empower them. (And sprinkle in a little light and laughter to keep it real.)

I started by coaching and mentoring young women competing in the Miss America Scholarship program -- for 30 years. More recently, I became a Certified Master Empowerment Coach, a keynote speaker, and an award-winning comedian. I’ve spoken at women conferences, churches, marketing events, Boss Babes, Gilda’s Club, Mark Ridley’s Comedy Club, S.H.E. Con, and the Christian Comedy Association national conference. My goal on stage is to share insights that help us see things differently.

And last but certainly not least, there’s my faith. It is the driving force behind everything I am, both professionally and personally.
